Sweater on my mind

You know how it is. You’ve got an idea for a sweater. You want to design it, but aren’t quite sure how, let alone what yarn to use.

I’ve got a sweater on the brain. See?

To make matters worse, I’m thumbing through some magazine and I see MY sweater in a Wal-Mart ad. Wal-Mart!

Now that we’ve established the level of taste here at the atelier de Nake-id, you may want to move on.

Here’s the Wal-Mart cardi (I would not have included pockets):

There's the idea, and then there's the execution of the idea.

If you made a sweater that was similar to something that has appeared in Wal-Mart's offerings, (1) as you worked, you would tweak refinements so that it would be more elegant, (2) it would fit you better, (3) it would be in a nicer fiber, (4) it would feel better to wear, and (5) it would last more than six months, in both wearable shape and appeal-to-wearer.

There are undoubtedly many more differences between a Nake-Id Knitted cardigan and a Wal-Mart cardigan, which I'm sure you can think of yourself. Among them, it is just a Thing and a work of your mind-and-fingers is a Presence.

The Wal-Mart item is surface. The idea in your mind can become substance.

So there.

I totally agree with Deborah...well said.  Stuff at Wal-mart [aka The Evil Empire] sometimes looks nice, but the construction/material sucks.

I saw a similar design on the subway yesterday, but it was a lovely two tone--the cable was done in a different color than the body. And yes, what Deborah said.
